Germán E. Velasco hails from the most culturally diverse country in Latin America and specializes in developing communication strategies and campaign messages for people of different cultural, religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. His over 20 years of experience in the public realm includes urban and regional planning, political analysis, and political strategy and communications.
For projects in Latin America, Germán has worked with organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations (Habitat), the governments of Japan and Canada, and various other international development and anti-poverty programs. Appointed by the President of Bolivia as Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in 1993, and appointed Governor of La Paz for a two-year term, in 2000, he also served as advisor to two Presidents of Bolivia.
Germán has overseen political campaign strategy and managed several campaigns at city and national levels, including three presidential campaigns. He has partnered with such political campaigning elite as Mark Penn, Duda Mendoça, Alfredo Keller, and Adrian Kochen.
He has written and produced numerous educational radio and television projects in his native Bolivia as well as in the United States. He has served as vice president of Foqus S.R.L., the largest movie TV production house at that time in Bolivia, and he also oversaw strategic planning and management for the Diana Media Group which included Grey Bolivia, a subsidiary of Grey New York. His projects have included: executive production of a documentary by New York producer, Sally Hunter; production of educational campaigns for Repsol YPF and British Petroleum; production of a pilot political analysis radio show for U.S. Latino Audiences, Pulso de Washington; and development of educational programming for Hispanic Radio Network and the Self Reliance Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Ellen Alderton received her BA in psychology from Wellesley College and her MA in international relations with an emphasis in environmental and energy policy from the Johns Hopkins University. She has managed national public education campaigns and executive-produced bilingual social marketing campaigns entailing grassroots outreach, radio, help-line, web, and print on subjects ranging from informal science to mental health and nutrition and obesity.
Ellen began her career at the United Nations in Austria where she wrote technical publications and managed in-house computer training programs, and she later covered European Union business policy as a freelance reporter in Brussels, Belgium. She has also co-designed an environmental summer camp for urban youth administered by the M.I.T. Museum.
Most recently, Ellen executive-produced a textbook and three videos on international economics developed in Bolivia for American students. She has won competitive grants for her projects from such federal institutions as the Department of Agriculture, the National Library of Medicine, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Department of Health and Human Services. She speaks Spanish, German, and Italian and has also studied Greek, Arabic, and French.
